Murciavania

A pixel-art metroidvania built on the real folklore of Spain's Region of Murcia.

PC · SteamSteam page under reviewRelease: Q4 2026

A 2D action-platformer metroidvania in the tradition of the great late-90s classics: an entire castle to explore, lose your way in and explore again — with its reflection on the other side of a mirror.

Murciavania's Steam page is under review and will open as soon as Valve approves it. We will announce it here.

The seal of the Almagra line is broken

Ginés Almagra, the last of a line that served the Enchanted Moorish Maiden, travels through 220 rooms across 60 zones to recover the five fragments of a seal, find out who broke it and face 20 bosses along the way.

A map with real place names

Instead of a generic fantasy castle, the Region of Murcia room by room: Monteagudo Castle, Caravaca, Sierra Espuña, the Mar Menor and Cartagena under its Punic name of Qart Hadasht, with detours to Toledo, Cuenca, Soria and legendary Tartessos. And instead of vampires, the bestiary of Murcian folklore and of festivals from all over Spain: the Enchanted Moorish Maiden, la Mussona, the Bogeyman, Don Carnal, the Tarasca of Corpus Christi and the Wine Horses.

Guard, spells and gear

  • Guard and perfect parry: during the first 0.14 seconds nothing gets through, the enemy is stunned and its projectile flies back at double damage. Every parried blow drains shield stamina.
  • Ten spells, each taught by a different relic, cast by pressing a direction and finishing with the attack button. They cost Spirit, so timing matters.
  • 101 pieces of gear, 13 sub-weapons with their own charged strike and 5 companions who fight or heal on their own.

The Envés: the same world, on the other side of the mirror

The second act flips the entire map horizontally, like a mirror: the same rooms and jumps, enemies with double health and 45% more damage, and four new bosses on the way to whoever really broke the seal. The game has two endings.

Thoroughly tested

Every system is validated by more than 6,400 automated checks: jumps measured to the pixel, all 20 boss fights played through and every room of the map checked against its neighbour.
